Assertion: Acceptance of evolution entails the denial of Christianity and Islam.

Analysis

It is difficult to understand how the evolutionary history of life is supposed to make it impossible for Jesus to have died for our sins, or for the Qur'an to have been revealed to Muhammad. It is only when one attempts to bind God to a creationist interpretation of the Bible or Qur'an, as though God could not have created however he wanted to, that one ends up concluding that Christianity and Islam are inconsistent with evolution.

Some of the specific arguments creationists offer for such an inconsistency are dealt with elsewhere in the Defender's Guide:

  • Evolution is atheistic because it makes no reference to God.
  • Evolution entails atheism.
  • Evolution entails that humanity was not predestined for existence.
  • Evolution entails that there was no Fall, and thus no need for Christ.
  • The cruelty and wastefulness of evolution is inconsistent with the goodness of God.
